FLYING CLUBS

Thinking about learning how to fly, or having an airplane available for personal or business use? Think FLYING CLUB!

  • Flying Clubs

When people are considering aircraft ownership or flight training, one option is sometimes overlooked—the flying club. It can be a great way to participate in aviation, with some valuable benefits:

While clubs come in different shapes and sizes, the basic concept is the same - to make flying more affordable by sharing aircraft ownership costs. Most clubs are run as a nonprofit group with a high priority on keeping costs down for members.

Many flying clubs operate multiple aircraft, providing a choice that can be matched to your flying needs, interests and budget. Aircraft will typically be clean and well-maintained, and can range from popular, safe, entry-level types like the Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee through to advanced planes with modern glass panel avionics.

Phone and web-based scheduling systems make it very easy to reserve an airplane when you want it. Most clubs keep a watchful eye on their airplane-to-member ratio so that airplanes aren’t hard to book, and club rules usually allow for overnight trips or longer.

One of the best parts of a flying club is the friendly interaction that develops through club social activities. Whether at a fly-in or a fly-out to another airport, or simply sharing “hangar flying” stories, you’ll find friendship and cama-raderie amongst like-minded people.

The majority of flying clubs allow flight training to take place in their aircraft. Instructors are often experienced club members with a strong level of commitment to high quality training. The club may also have special resources for students, like flight simulators, ground schools, infor-mation libraries and other training aids.
